Fiber Patch Panel are also known as fiber optic patch panels. The function of the terminal block is to terminate the fiber optic cable and provide a single cable for the access cable for cross-connection. Fiber optic patch panels can be cross-connected using fiber jumpers, connected to fiber optic communications equipment or test fiber in the various fibers.
A fiber optic patch panel is usually composed of two parts, a compartment containing a fiber optic adapter (bulkhead receptacle), and a compartment comprising a fiber optic connector tray and a redundant fiber optic cable.
The fiber patch panel consists of a series of duplex SC adapters, hybrid adapters or small (SFF) sockets. If the entire installation (including a fiber hub, repeater, or network adapter) uses the same type of fiber optic connector, the array can be made from a compatible adapter or socket.
To switch between fiber connector types, you need a hybrid adapter or a conversion cable. The hybrid adapter is a passive coupler that connects two different connector types, while the conversion cable has only one connector type at one end and only one connector type at the opposite.
The fiber optic patch panel provides a convenient way to rearrange fiber optic cable connections and circuits. Simple wiring boards are metal frames that contain bushings, and fiber optic cable connectors are inserted on both sides. The side of the panel is usually fixed, meaning that the fiber optic cable is not intended to be disconnected. On the other side of the panel, you can connect and disconnect the fiber optic cable to arrange the circuit as needed.
Not all fiber-optic network cables use the same type of cable or connector, so there are several types of adapters for fiber-optic connectors. If the fiber patch panel does not provide an adapter type, it must be added between the adapter on the panel and the cable with a different adapter type. This can be done using a conversion cable or a hybrid adapter. The conversion cable is only a cable with two different types of adapters at both ends, and the hybrid adapter is connected directly to one end of the patch panel.
